Elizabeth “Beth” Marie Weiland, 79, of Lynchburg, died on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Virginia Baptist Hospital after a long illness. Beth was born on August 5, 1935, to the late Margaret Tompkins Weiland and Philip John Weiland, Jr.
Beth graduated from E. C. Glass, and went on to receive her B. A. from Randolph Macon Women’s College, her M. A. from the University of Virginia, and a degree as an education specialist from Lynchburg College.
In 1974 and 1975, Beth was honored as one of the “Outstanding Educators of America”. She retired in 1997 after 25 years of teaching biology at Richard Bland College in Petersburg, Va. The same year, Beth was recognized by “Who’s Who of American Teachers”.
Beth was a member of The D.A.R., Lynchburg Chapter, where she was a Past Regent. She was a life-long member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, and was a Master Gardener for many years.
Left behind to cherish Beth’s memory are her cousins, Raymond O. Weiland, III, George Tompkins, Jr., Sally Tompkins Thielecke, and Martha Nowlin.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Glasgow Cemetery.
