Elizabeth “Liz” Margaret Gardner, 90, of Lynchburg, died on Thursday, April 7, 2016.
She was the wife of the late Warren Aulton Gardner.
Born September 20, 1925 in Akron, Ohio the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Tippel Sr.,
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her brother John Tippel Jr., sister-in-law, Helen Moore and nephew Edward Tippel.
Elizabeth grew up in Akron, Ohio where she graduated from Garfield High School and worked as an Occupational Secretary for the Freitag Manufacturing Corp. She moved to Lynchburg along with her husband in 1969 when he was transferred with Babcock and Wilcox. It was here in Lynchburg, where Elizabeth became an avid golfer and an active member of the Lynchburg’s Women’s Club and the Timbrook Women’s Club, where she held many offices. She had the ability to make everyone that joined the clubs to feel welcome.
She is survived by her brother Fred and his wife Bonnie Tippel of Snow, Ohio, her three nieces Patricia Mlyner and husband Ron of Monroe Falls, Ohio, Lisa Roeder and husband Mark of New Ulm, Minnesota and Laura Stauss and husband Wayne of New Hampshire, New Hampshire, and a host great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, Monday April 11, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will take place at Virginia Memorial Park’s Mausoleum on Tuesday April 12, 2016 at 11 a.m.
