Elizabeth V. Haas Hamlin Miller, age 109, of Lynchburg, VA died peacefully at home on Monday, March 14, 2016.
She was born on December 10, 1906 to Zaida Morris and William Miles Haas. She was the oldest of 12 children.
She graduated from E.C. Glass High School, worked for the C & P Telephone Company for 43 years, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She attended Centenary Methodist Church. She was married to Jack Hamlin and they lived in Roanoke, VA and after he died she married Robert Miller and lived in Lynchburg the rest of her life. She provided for her mother and younger siblings after her father was killed in a store robbery and continued to provide for her mother and sister, Frances, until they died. She loved her nephews and nieces as her children and enjoyed keeping up with her large family and traveling.
She is survived by sisters, Margaret Wilson of Appomattox and Audrey Houser of Spring, TX, and many nephews and nieces. She was cared for the last 13 years by the Calloway family lovingly. She was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Cecil Cox, Frances Haas, Jean Morris and brothers, William M. Haas, II, James T. Haas, Layman Haas, Morris F. Haas, John E. Haas, and Richard Haas.
A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, on Friday, March 18, 2016, at 1:00 p.m.
