Elizabeth Wineman Pearson

Elizabeth (Betty) Shaw Wineman Pearson, 91, passed away in Lynchburg, VA on January 7, 2014. A daughter of the late Edgar Ward and Elizabeth Shaw, she was born October 26, 1922 in East McKeesport, PA. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Walter R. Wineman to whom she was married for 46 years and her second husband, Richard F. Pearson for 7 years.

Betty graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (formerly Indiana State Teachers College) where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in art education. Betty taught art in public schools in Pennsylvania and Lynchburg. She is well known around Lynchburg for her beautiful carved life-size song birds. Betty was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Lynchburg College Woman\"™s Club and The Woman\"™s Club of Lynchburg. She was a resident of Westminster-Canterbury Lynchburg.

She is survived by two daughters; Janie W. Dowdy and son-in-law Roger of Richmond, and Ann H. Gall and son-in-law Scott of Vesuvius, VA. She is survived by three grandchildren; Todd J. Hamm and his wife Teresa of Scottsville, Kristen Dowdy Hart of Richmond, and Eric T. Hamm and his wife Elizabeth of Charlottesville. She has seven great-grandsons. She also is survived by a stepson, Robert H. Pearson of Peru, IN, and two stepdaughters, Gale P. Truman and her husband, James, of Morgantown, W.Va., and Beth P. McAtee and her husband, Kevin, of Greensburg, PA.

The family requests that memorials be made to Lynchburg College, 1501 Lakeside Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24501 or a charity of your choice. A private interment will be held at a later date.
