God called Ella Josephine Elliott Robey to eternal rest on June 19, 2024.
Ella Josephine Elliott Robey was born in Campbell County, Virgina on August 14, 1923. She was the oldest of four children born to George Elliott, Sr. and Mary Burks Elliott. Ella married the late Sandy E. Robey, Sr. and to their union five children were born.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Sandra Berry, son, Sandy Robey Jr., grandson, Kevin Robey, great grandchildren, Aushia Robey and Duwhon Gilbert as well as her siblings, George Elliott Jr., Frank Elliott and Elizabeth Elliott Jackson.
She was baptized at Saint Luke Baptist Church, Brookneal, VA at an early age. She later joined Fifth Street Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA where she served until her health declined. She often visited her second home and family church Evergreen Baptist Church, Naruna, Virginia.
She received her formal education in Campbell County and later graduated from Stokes Institute of Cosmetology in Lynchburg, Va. Ella was a very energetic and healthy woman and possessed a strong work ethic. Whether cleaning, cooking, ironing, hairdressing or taking care of the sick, whatever job she did, was done with pride and dignity. She retired from Lynchburg City Schools but continued working until she was over 80 years old.
Centenarian, Ella was filled with a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. Many people were drawn to her because of her wonderful sense of humor. She loved to travel and often visited Philadelphia and New Jersey. She enjoyed visiting Germany, and she loved living in Hawaii. Ella enjoyed reading romance novels, solving crossword puzzles, and watching television. She particularly enjoyed “The Price is Right” and “Wheel of Fortune”. She often volunteered to assist with Cub Scouts and other organizations.
With all her wonderful attributes and qualities, Ella’s greatest love by far was her love for her family. She found much joy in raising her children, assisting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an excellent cook, famous for her corn and rice puddings, homemade yeast rolls, cakes and pies. Dinner was served in serving bowls with an ironed white tablecloth daily.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Florence James of Philadelphia, PA, Retired Army, SFC Shirley Padilla of Land O’ Lakes, Fl., and a devoted daughter Retired Army SGM Brenda McCall (Lawrence) of Triangle, Va. She also leaves to cherish her beautiful memories eleven grandchildren, Gloria Johnson (Kelly), Raymond Robey, Johnny W.
