Ellen Evans Grisales

Ellen Evans Grisales, of Chatham, Va., born November 4, 1942, to Sarah and Marcus Evans. Ellen, a Mother, Sister, Wife, and Loyal Friend, died March 11, 2017, in Lynchburg General Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Asur Grisales; sister, Rebecca Evans Yandell and her husband, Edgar, sister, Sally Evans Burnett; and Daughters, Beverly Grisales, Darcy Armstrong, and Angela Varga.

She is remembered for her dedication to making wonderful meals for family and friends. Her cooking skills were once featured in the Danville Register & Bee. Ellen preserved food from the garden, crafting specialties like dilly green beans crabapple sauce and peach chutney.

Ellen lead the first mobile blood bank in Danville, Virginia.

She owned and operated the Dairy Queen on Hwy 29 for many years, providing outstanding biscuits for breakfast. Ellen’s adjacent lot allowed truck drivers to make Dairy Queen a regular stop.

Later, Ellen enjoyed spending much time with her neighbor’s young son, Brian. Maria Muños-Pacheco, Juan Zacarias, and Brian Zacarias-Muños became an extension of her own family, and she was very proud of their accomplishments.
