Ellen Ruth Sherwin, 71, of Evington, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 7, 2016. She was the loving wife of Dean Harvey Sherwin for 54 years, who preceded her in death.
Born June 27, 1945, in Blytheville, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Floyd Austin and the late Gertrude Austin. Ellen was a loving, faithful servant of her Lord, her husband, and her family. Everyone called her Mom, and in later life, Grammy. She was an amazing cook. Whether she was cooking for her family or hundreds of people, you couldn’t leave her house without eating something! Ellen’s first job was a wife and mother, but she served a variety of positions in later years at a number of places including Engleside Christian School, Wacama Pottery, J. Crew, Rapidan Baptist Camp, Runk & Pratt, FairOaks Church, and Holiday Inn.
Left to cherish Ellen’s memory are her sons, Jeff Sherwin and his wife, Elaine of Fredericksburg, Va., and Jason Sherwin and his wife, René of Evington, Va.; a daughter, Melanie Nestor and her husband, Tom of Wixom, Mich.; a sister, Nelda Grace Buick and her husband, Richard of San Bernardino, Calif.; grandsons, Kyle Sherwin of Hagerstown, Md., Trevor Sherwin of Fredericksburg, Va., Joshua Nestor of Wixom, Mich., and James Sherwin of Evington, Va.; granddaughters, Brittany Scheidell of New Bern, N.C., Ellen Nestor of Wixom, Mich., and Kristina Sherwin of Evington, Va.; great-granddaughter, Bella Sherwin of Hagerstown, Md.; and many friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Marie Sherwin; and brothers, Floyd Sterling Austin and Charles Alfred Austin.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Living Word Baptist Church, 4130 Waterlick Road, Forest, VA 24551. A celebration of Ellen’s life will follow at 5 p.m. at Living Word Baptist Church.
A second visitation will be held at Lakes Bible Church, 309 Decker Road, Walled Lake, MI 48390, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016. The second celebration of Ellen’s life will follow at 5 p.m. at Lakes Bible Church.
