Elmer E. Overstreet, 81, of Bedford, passed away Friday, February 3, 2012. Born on November 3, 1930 a son of the late Richard Harris Overstreet and Annie Orange Overstreet. He was a member of Bedford Presbyterian Church. He was a Sergeant with the Bedford City Police Department where he served for 28 years while also working for Schewels Furniture.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Overstreet; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Eddy Bradley, of Vinton; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Karen Overstreet, and David and Deanna Overstreet, all of Bedford; grandchildren, Nick Overstreet and wife Crystal, of Bedford, Heather Sellers and husband, Joe, of Moneta, Jessie and Clint Overstreet, of Bedford; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Lucy Sellers, of Moneta, Brandon Gmach, of Bedford; brother, Alfred Overstreet and wife, Irene, of Springfield, VA; sister, Virginia (Jenny) Powers, of Virginia Beach, VA. The family wishes to thank caregivers, Stella Porter and Lillian Browley.

Funeral services will be conducted, 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frank Avery officiating. Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
