Elsie Best Hammond, 89, of Lynchburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2019. She was the wife of the late Gustavus Hammond.
Born in Waltham, Mass., on April, 21, 1930, the daughter of the late Raymond and Edna Best. She grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Elsie was the matriarch of her family and loved being a devoted mother. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Martinsville, VA.
She is survived by her children, Melody Carlton and husband Kenneth of Lynchburg, Tammy Redenius and husband Gary of Chesapeake, and Cindy Hammond of Martinsville, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 7271 Cloverdale Road, Cloverdale VA. 24019, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019 with the Reverend Ian McManamey officiating.
