Elsie Evelyn Hamlett Harris, 87, of Madison Heights, died Friday, March 8, 2019. She was the loving wife of James William Harris for over 67 years.
Elsie was born on November 7, 1931 in Appomattox County. She was a daughter of the late Jesse Herbert Hamlett and Ala Mozell Mason Hamlett. Elsie was retired from General Electric and Ericsson and was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
In addition to her husband she was survived by her 12 children: Janet Combs, Cheryl Harris, Rosemary Fulcher, Carol Radcliff, Sheila Harris, Regina Gibson, Michael, Phillip, Patrick, Roger, Shaun, and Paul Harris, two brothers, Watkins and Carter Hamlett, one sister, Shirley McCluster, 24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Harris, one brother Richard Hamlett, and two sisters Mary Lee Caswell and Bernice Sprinkle, three half-brothers, Walter, Otis and Clifford Hamlett.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2019 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A Funeral Mass for Elsie will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Msgr. J. Kenneth Rush as celebrant. A reception will follow the service, with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
