Elsie Lee Williams Burford

Elsie Lee Williams Burford, 94, went to be with the Lord from the Bedford County Nursing Home on January 18, 2013. Born Tuesday, August 27, 1918 in Bedford County, VA, to the late Pernander Duval Williams and Emma Cleveland Newcomb Williams. She was a devoted wife for 70 years to the late Macon E. Burford.

 In addition to her parents and husband, Elsie was preceded in death by her brothers Ed Williams and Lambeth Williams and a grandson in law Rodney W. Weeks, Sr.

 They were avid campers and loved taking bus trips. She was the oldest member of Oakland United Methodist Church. Elsie worked at many garment factories in Salem, Moneta, Bedford and Lynchburg; she retired at the age of 62.

 Elsie is survived by her daughter, Sandra Collins; son-in-law, Fred M. Collins; grandchildren, Lisa Arthur and husband, Richard, Wayne Collins and wife, Jennifer, Linda W. Phelps and husband, Beryle, Josh Collins and wife, Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Rodney Weeks, Jr. and wife Diana, Michael Arthur, Matthew Arthur, and Samuel Macon Collins all of Bedford County; her loving sister, Virginia Salyerds of New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews.

 Memorial contributions may be made to the Goode Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 178, Goode, VA 24556, the Bedford Rescue Squad, 311 Bedford Ave., Bedford, VA 24523, or Oakland United Methodist Church, 2465 Goode Station Road, Goode, VA 24556.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. H. O. \"Tom\" Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, (540) 586-3443.
