Elwood Luck Karnes, 71, of Bedford, danced his way to heaven to be reunited with his parents on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. The youngest of eleven children, Elwood was born on January 9, 1942 in Bedford County, a son of the late Leola Merton James Karnes and James Miller Karnes.
Elwood was a member of Longwood Baptist Church and a retiree of Rubatex Corp with over 35 years of service. He lived on the family farm where he enjoyed farming and raising cows. He also enjoyed playing Rook but most of all he loved dancing and teaching others how to dance.
In addition to his parents, Elwood was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Settles Brugh, Opal June Karnes Ferguson, James Carl Karnes and Nolan Wayne Karnes; a nephew, Tony Karnes; and his beloved dog, Casey. He is survived by five sisters, Grace Miller Johnson, Myrtle Irene Holdren, Hazel Marie Gray, Winnie Belle Ashwell, and Sarah Anne Duncan; one brother, William Ray Karnes and his wife, Mae; numerous nieces and nephews; mother of his stepchildren, Carol Collins; two stepdaughters, Melissa and her husband, Jamie Henry, and Dremas and her husband, David Housman; and two stepsons, Dennis and Randall Winingham.

A celebration of Elwood\"™s life will be conducted at 11 AM, Friday, March 8, 2013 in the Tharp Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. H. Vernon DeLong and Rev. Danny Holdren officiating.
