Emelie Rae Craig “Momo” Sigmon entered into Eternal Rest on November 8, 2024. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 71 years, Clarence Odell “Speedy” Sigmon, her parents, four brothers and 9 sisters. She is survived by her four children Kay, Pam, Melanie and Chris: three brothers, Harold M. Craig, Ernest R. Craig and Howard D. Craig, brother-in-law Howard Milton (Pat), 11 Grandchildren, 12 Great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Emelie was born April 26, 1936, a coal miner’s daughter from Premier, WV, one of nine children born to Vernon Otho Craig and Sadie Love Hughes Craig. She also had 10 half siblings that were born to Vernon Otho Craig and Minnie Francis Dooley Craig. Mom was proud of her large family and often reminisced about her childhood.
Emelie was always helping family and friends in need. She would never turn away anyone who needs a helping hand. Emelie would always proclaim she was a “Kick Ass Woman.” An advocate for social justice, no challenge was ever too great as she vowed to “Don’t Give Up” and “Don’t let the son of a bitches win.” She worked very hard at Rubatex for many years and retired from there. Emelie was known for her Applesauce Fruitcake and for a number of years, she sold them to friends and coworkers.
Per Emelie’s requests, the cremains of her sister with whom she always shared a close relationship, Virginia Susan “Suebill” Craig Marine Singer who was born May 04, 1925, in McDowell, West Virginia and died May 10, 2006, Silver Spring, Maryland, will be buried with Emelie.
Thanks to Heritage Green assisted living, especially to Montague Snead and Phillip for making mom’s days a little brighter. Nicki at Forest Health & Rehab and Anietra, Miata, Doris and Hailey for the excellent in home care given to mom.
