Emeline Scribner Hanway, 100, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 23, 2018.
She is preceded in death by her husband the late James Padgett Hanway Jr., Mr. Hanway was a Captain in the army during WWII and worked at GE in Lynn, MA where her met and married Emeline.
She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Calvin, Kraft and Bob; one sister, Madeline.
Emeline was born June 10, 1918, in Swampscott, MA, one of six children born to the late Samuel and Ida Scribner. She was a very talented crafter and seamstress; she won a sewing machine on the Leggett Annual Sewing Competition, taking first place. She also was State Senior Bowling champion when she was in her 70’s and is in the Virginia bowling Hall of Fame.
She is survived by her James Padgett Hanway, III and his wife Betty, of Texas; daughter, Lynda Hanway (Green) of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Laura Ballenger and her husband Eddie, Samantha Hanway, all of Texas, Lisa Green Krehbiel of Lynchburg, Rogers Hart Green, Jr. of Lynchburg; eight great-grandchildren, Tristen Hanway, Blake Ballenger, Brody Ballenger, India Mary Krehbiel, Christian Ford Krehbiel, Martha Emeline Green, Annabelle Lee Green and Rogers Hart Green III and a sister Evelyn Schriber Rodger.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Spring Hill Cemetery.
