Emmett Goff, 98, of Big Island, shook hands with his heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, while he was surrounded by his family following his long illness with Alzheimer\"™s.
He was born October 15, 1914 in Bedford County, the son of the late Ed and Nannie Pippin Goff. Emmett was the third of nine children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Issac, Woodrow, Allen and a sister Virginia.
Emmett was a retired and self-employed carpenter. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, traveling and woodworking. His children and grandchildren have pieces of his great work. Each child has a wooden swing, walking cane, tables, etc. crafted by his hands. He had great enjoyment in sharing his vegetables from his garden with everyone.
Emmett was a member and deacon of Chestnut Hill Free Will Baptist in Big Island. He was a Christian God Fearing man. Man of his word and faith, loved and respected by family and friends.
Emmett leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 69 years, Nannie Erma Campbell Goff, who faithfully cared for him throughout his life, also three daughters, May Clark Massie (Larry) of Bedford, Pearl Wilson Gross (Jake), Faye Whorley (Larry) , Bobby Goff (Irine), Eddie Goff (Ann) all of Big Island and Winston Goff (Vicki) of Forest ; also surviving are 14 grandchildren; one step grandchild; 37 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Maxie Goff; three sisters, Nina and Ina Goff, Martha Dollman and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Emmett\"™s life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Sedalia Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Jones officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior at the church on Saturday. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
