Ernest Burnette Hotstetter, Jr.

Ernest Burnette Hostetter, Jr., 72, of Forest, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016. He was the husband of Sarah Jane Shelton Hostetter for 53 years.

Born Saturday, September 8, 1943, in Buena Vista, Va., Ernie was a son of the late Ernest Burnette Hostetter, Sr. and the late Eunice Thacker Hostetter.

In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Clarence Hostetter.

As well as his wife, Ernie is survived by his brother-in-law, Kent Shelton and his wife, Diane; sister-in-law, Jeanie Kessler; nieces, Lorie Beneke, and Ashley Morgan and her husband, Seth; nephew, George Shelton and his wife, Amanda; four great-nephews; three great-nieces; Molly the cat; and other family members and friends.

Ernie proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was retired from Valley Protein, a member of Forest Presbyterian Church, a member of Colonial Hills Golf Course, and past member of Poplar Forest Golf Course.  Ernie enjoyed playing golf, woodworking, reading, good times at Myrtle Beach, and spending time with family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Ernie’s life will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Morgan Whitfield officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
