Ernest Smith \”Œjack\” White, Jr.

Ernest Smith \"Jack\" White, Jr., 81, of Coleman Falls, died on Wednesday, June 23, 2010.  He was the loving husband of Mary \"Ann\" Rice White, for 57 years.

Born Wednesday, January 16, 1929 in Lynchburg, VA, Jack was a son of the late Ernest Smith White and Mary Catherine Jones White.  He proudly served our country in the U.S. National Guard.  He was retired from Lynchburg General Hospital where he worked for 25 years. He was a member of Sandusky Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and usher.

In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his god-children, Kimberly Rice Pleasants, of Evington, and  Gary Williams, of Baltimore, MD, a brother William \"Billy\" A. White, of Amherst, a sister, Betty Pettyjohn and her husband Steve, of Lynchburg, a god-child, two nieces, Jessica Pleasants, of Evington, and Whitney Pettyjohn Rogers and her husband Stacy, of Richmond, two nephews, William B. Pleasants, III, and Todd Pettyjohn, and his wife Annette, both of Evington,

Jack was a gifted person, who always had a project he was working on. Being a Master Gardener, Jack loved the outdoors, he loved to hunt and fish, but most of all he loved people. He loved Ann more than life itself. Though he and Ann never had children, he considered all children his own. He was an honest straightforward man, who was the first to offer and the last to ask.

The family received friends last night at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.  A funeral service will be conducted today,  June 26, 2010 at 12:00 noon, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Vogt and Rev. Bobby L. Woods officiating.  Burial will follow in Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Big Island.  A reception will follow the burial at Hunting Creek Baptist Church.
