Esmond Harris Brightwell, 94, went to be with his Lord, Thursday, February 28, 2019. He passed in the same house that he was born in, after a lengthy illness. Born November 20, 1924 in Madison Heights, he was a son of Harmon Leon and Lessie Jane Mays Brightwell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Charles Davidson, Harmon Leon, Jr., and Laywood Jefferson Brightwell.
A lifelong resident of Madison Heights, and a fourth generation miller, he spent his entire career as owner/operator of Brightwell’s Mill and was a farmer. For 36 years, he was a school bus driver for Amherst County Public Schools, and many may remember him as their driver.
Esmond is survived by his wife of 71 years, Edna Earle Cash Brightwell, a daughter, Sandra Moss (Charlie), sons Ricky (Doris), and John (Debbie), six grandchildren, Charles Moss, Vince (Courtney) Moss, Victoria (John) Grieser, Beth (Andrew) Harker, Rick (Morgan) Brightwell, and Lisa (Mike) Schmitt, 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephew, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of Esmond’s life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 03, 2019 at Oakdale Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Wornstaff and Pastor Marvin Suitt officiating. A visitation will be held immediately after the service.
