Estelle Dannel Wilson

Estelle Dannel Wilson passed away on November 1, 2023, at her home in Forest, VA surrounded by her family.  She was the daughter of Harold and Elizabth Dannel and the beloved wife of Douglas Jerome Wilson for 59 years.

Estelle was born on March 19, 1942, in Roanoke, VA and graduated from Jefferson High School.  She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Lynchburg, VA.  She was an avid reader and spent many hours working word puzzles and playing board games.  She was talented with a needle and thread and every family member wanted one of the beautiful pillows cloth calendars that she created.  Most of all Estelle loved nothing more than spending time with family and close friends. 

In addition to her husband, Estelle is survived by her daughters Sherry Wilson, Gwenn Cheatwood and her husband Bruce, Paula Dexter and her husband Dennis, grandson Evan all of Forest, VA and granddaughter Taylor Cheatwood of Carrboro, NC.  She is also survived by her sister Shirley Wilson and husband Joe of Virginia Beach, VA and over 30 nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her son Stephan Douglas, brother Joe Dannel.

A visitation will be held on November 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Lynchburg followed by a Mass of Christian Burial.  After Mass there will be a reception at the church. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Blue Ridge Memorial Garden in Roanoke, VA.

The family will be receiving visitors at the home of Gwenn and Bruce Cheatwood, 1864 Colby Drive, Forest, VA on Saturday November 11, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
