Esther Thomas Licht, 98, of Forest, Va., passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2017.
Born November 27, 1918 in Deshler, Neb., Esther was the daughter of the late John Unbehaun and Amanda Eitzman Unbehaun. In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her husbands, Elwood B. Thomas and Carl E. Licht.
Esther is survived by her son, Charles B. Thomas and daughter-in-law, Rita Dowling, and her daughter, Betty Jo Gardner, and son-in-law, David R. Gardner, all of Forest. She has four grandchildren, Chad Thomas (wife, Brandy Freechak) of Hiram, O; Brooke Thomas (fiancé, Brandon Rawot) of Cincinnati, Ohio; Chris Gardner (wife,Erin Gardner) of Dallas, TX and Brad Gardner (wife, Emily Gardner) of Bristow, Va. Her six great-grandchildren are Taylor and Tanya Thomas, Blaine Prusa, Tyler and Ethan Gardner and Kaitlin Gardner. She has one great-great-grandchild, Elizabeth Rowland.
Esther previously lived in Elgin, Ill. for many years where she was an active volunteer for several clubs and service organizations. These include the March of Dimes, Junior Service Board, Newcomers Club, Valley Garden League, Sherman Hospital, PTA and Travel Class. She loved gardening and music.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Forest Presbyterian Church, followed immediately by a celebration of Esther’s life, conducted at 5 p.m. with Rev. Morgan Whitfield officiating. A light supper will follow.
