Esther Wilson Rice “Nannie”, 87, of Lynchburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.
Esther was born April 11, 1931, in Traphill, N.C. She was the daughter of the late John Wilson and Mary Baugess Wilson and was also preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Lee Rice; and son, Ronnie Ed Rice, and granddaughter, Melissa Bates Staton.
Esther attended Blue Ridge Community Church and Living Word Baptist Deaf Ministries.
Esther was a devoted wife, mother, and Nannie. Esther enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and dancing. Esther was a self-taught seamstress, having made many dresses for her children and grandchildren. Esther was also an excellent cook, famous for her deviled eggs.
Esther’s lively spirit created many joyful memories that her family will forever hold in their hearts.
Survivors include two daughters, Evan Joan Bates of Lynchburg and Lola Rice Scruggs of Evington; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; one cousin, Aldean Wilson of Traphill, N.C.; and a very special friend, Melvin Ebron of Lynchburg.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. in the Chapel at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg by the Rev. John Wyble on Friday, May 18, 2018. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at all other times at the residence.
