Ethel Elizabeth Cole Bischoff 91, of Lynchburg, died Friday, July 3, 2015 following a very brief illness.
Born September 18, 1923, in New Jersey, Ethel was a daughter of Addie Rush Cole and Edgar Russel Cole.
Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Fred Christian Bischoff, a stillborn son, John Bischoff, half-brothers Harry, Donald and Heston Shoemaker.
Her sister, Sarah Crouse died June 3, 2015 and her brother Russel Cole died June 27, 2015.
She is survived by her children: Ruth Syre of Lynchburg, Mary Ann Bischoff and her husband, Brian Kuehnapfel of New Jersey, and Paul Bischoff, of Lynchburg, four grandchildren: Elizabeth Syre, Thomas Syre, Jr., Anna Kuehnapfel, and James Kuehnapfel, nieces and nephew.
Ethel graduated from Phillipsburg High School and Churchman Business School. Easton, Pa. with an Associate’s Degree in Business. She was an active member of Rustburg Presbyterian Church.
As a pastor’s wife, Ethel served faithfully by Fred’s side. In the churches they served together, she took the role of secretary, mentor, teacher, organizer and friend. Her greatest joy was as wife, mother and grandmother. She possessed a quiet strength that provided support and guidance for all she met. Her strength came from her strong faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Rustburg Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Elizabeth Forester officiating. The family will receive friends after the service.

The family is grateful for all the love and care that has surrounded them during this difficult time. Known as “Little Ethel” to her family, to paraphrase Shakespeare, “ Though she be little, she was fierce.”
