Eugene Arthur Payne

Eugene Arthur “Art” Payne, 77, of Lynchburg, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 25, 2017. He was the husband of Cathy Bumgarner Payne for 45 years.
Born on May 10, 1940, in Salem, Va., Eugene was the son of the late Edith Roberts Payne and the late Eugene Blair Payne. He was a faithful member of Hyland Heights Baptist Church where he sang in the choir.
Along with his wife, Eugene is survived by his son, Eugene “Artie”, Jr., and his wife, Heather; five grandchildren: Alexis Martin and her husband, Dustin, Dylan, Abby Rose, Jake, and Elana; two great-grandchildren, Oakley and Riley Martin; one sister, Lorraine “Reena” Payne Dorr; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will hold services for Eugene privately at a later date.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
