Eula Mae Mayo

September 11, 1938 — September 13, 2021

Mrs. Eula Mae Perkins Mayo, 83, of Richmond, VA transitioned peacefully in the arms of our Heavenly Father on Monday, September 13, 2021. She was born on September 11, 1938, to the late Cecil and Creola Perkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother Chaddy Perkins, husband Frank Mayo, siblings Preston Perkins, Cecil Perkins, Jr, Michael Perkins and Saundra Perkins; a grandchild and two great-grandchildren lost at birth.

Following her graduation from high school, Eula began her working career. She worked in the dietary department at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, VA for many years. Upon relocating to Richmond, VA, she began working at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital, from which she retired. Eula enjoyed the simple pleasures of life-spending time with family, shopping, cooking and encouraging others through greeting cards.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her sons, Frederick Mayo of Richmond, VA, Wendell Mayo (Teressa) of Amherst, VA; siblings, Edith Farrar and Sytonnia Gage both of Richmond, VA, James Perkins (Linda) of Detriot, MI, LaVella Joplin of Belleville, IL, Nathaniel Perkins (Carol) of Waynesboro, VA, Prestine Warren of Williamson, WV, and William Perkins of Queens, NY; grandchildren, Francisco Mayo (Stephanie), Marquita Stewart (Marcus), and Anthony Mayo (Rocio); great-grandchildren, Miguel Mayo, Manuel Mayo, Morgan Mayo, Jayce Mayo, Xhaiden Mayo, Kairo Mayo, Kaliyah Mayo, Zaniyah Mayo; a special devoted caregiver Mary; a host of loving nieces, nephews, other wonderful relatives and friends.

Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for all the love and support shown towards us during this time. Thank you for your continued prayers. Special thanks to the staff at Glenburnie Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital for the care you all gave to our mother/grandmother. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, Va. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home. Please follow the rules and regulations for COVID-19, masks are required.
