Eunice Godsey Lucado
March 25, 1926 — February 11, 2021
Eunice Godsey Lucado, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 11, 2021, after a long battle with thyroid cancer. She was born March 25, 1926, in Lynchburg to the late Hugh Hester Godsey and Mattie Thompson Godsey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Edwin Earl Lucado, and her daughter, Karen Lucado Haynes.
Eunice is survived by her daughter, Cheryl L. Hartman (Ed) of Henrico, Virginia; three grandchildren, Bryan E. Hartman (Annie) of Phoenix, Arizona, Joshua H. Hartman (Mary) of Cheriton, Virginia and Amy D. Carderelli (Tony) of Amherst, Virginia; four great-grandchildren, Beau, Katherine, Edward, and Louise Hartman; two siblings, Hugh Hester Godsey, Jr. of Lynchburg and Peggy Godsey Mitchell of Forest; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Bernice Godsey Dennison Dudley of Lynchburg, Jeanette Godsey Miller of Lynchburg and Nadine Godsey Bernest of Bancroft, Michigan.
Eunice attended Lynchburg Public Schools and held positions at C & P Telephone Company, John E. Gannaway Hardware Co., and General Electric. She felt strongest about being a homemaker. She had an immense creative talent that was shown by her beautiful sewing, interior decorating, painting, cooking, and landscaping. She also believed that cleanliness was next to godliness, and she always maintained an immaculate house including her famous spotless windows.
As a lifelong member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church, she devoted an enormous amount of time and energy into teaching and many other church related projects. She was a devout Christian, always put herself last and lived her life in service to others.
She was affectionately called “Muh” by her children and grandchildren. They loved the stories she told and long for just one more. She lived a beautiful life of family, laughter and so much love. She will be missed by all.
The family will be forever grateful to the Liberty University nursing students, Alyssa (x2), Cassie, Elizabeth, Mindy, and Rachael, who were exceptional caregivers. They were a gift from God.
Due to COVID restrictions, a graveside service will be scheduled at a later date.
