Eva P. Dudley, of Goode, passed away Friday, January 13, 2017. She was a resident of Oakwood Health and Rehab for over four years. She was surrounded by those that loved her when she passed away from this life. She was born on February 26, 1920, in Bedford County. She was the last surviving child of the late George Wallie Padgett and Emma Jane Tankersley Padgett. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Nelson Padgett, Melvin Padgett, Eugene Padgett, Eldridge Padgett and Hannon Padgett and her sisters, Edna P. Hogan, Alise P. Overstreet, and Kathleen “Kitty” P. Brown.

She was the oldest living member of Oakland United Methodist Church. Her family were members of Oakland since its inception. Some of her most memorable times at Oakwood were when the church visited once a month with songs, devotions and laughter. She leaves behind a lifelong friend, Emma Abbott, still a resident there and roommate, Louise Overstreet and loyal friend, Mary Cooper.

She is survived by daughters, Linda Carol Epperson and husband, Ronnie and Brenda Dudley Hudson of Goode; granddaughters, Sherri Staton and husband, Danny and Christy Epperson and significant other, Joshua Cahow; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Staton and girlfriend, Hana Morrison, Briana Staton and Brittany Staton all of Goode. She had numerous beloved nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews as well as special friends, Diane and Mike Guill, Frances and W.R. Stanley, daughter and son-in-law of roommate and Louie Martin. Over the time she was at Oakwood, many residents and their families became trusted friends.

The family would also like to thank the many nurses, aides and staff at Oakwood. She dearly loved many of them. Also thanks go out to Bedford Hospice for their sensitivity and care they provided in her final weeks. The family would like to thank Hospice nurse, Stephanie Gifford for the support and understanding her needs before her passing.

She spent many of her last year’s testifying to the saving grace of Jesus Christ and life with Him eternal. Her wishes were for those making memorials consider her church that she loved so much, Oakland United Methodist Church, 2465 Goode Station Road, Goode, VA 24556.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 21, 2017, and celebration of life service at 11:00 am at Oakland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. H.O. “Tom” Thomas officiating. There will be a reception following the service.
