Evan Morgan

Evan Morgan, 88, died August 1, 2018 at Westminster Canterbury, his home of the last 8 years. Evan was born February 26, 1930 to Evan Morgan, Jr. and Emma K. Klobucher Morgan in Spokane, Wash. He grew up in Loon Lake, Wash. where his father owned and operated the Morgan Park summer resort at the lake.
Evan received his BS in Chemistry from Gonzaga University, and his Masters & PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Washington. He was employed by IBM in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. when he met his wife of 55 years, Johnnie Lu Dickson. They were married February 14, 1959 in her hometown of Kingsport, Tenn. Later, Evan was a research chemist at Olin-Mathieson and Reynolds Metals. He was also an Associate Professor at High Point University in High Point, N.C. and at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond for several years before moving to Lynchburg in 1972 to join B&W as an analytical chemist with the Lynchburg Research Center and the Naval Nuclear Fuels Division. He retired from B&W in 1995.
As a Master Gardener and Tree Steward, he volunteered with the City of Lynchburg for many years beautifying the landscape of the city. Evan loved music of any kind, especially jazz and opera, raised the most gorgeous orchids, enjoyed photography, stamp collecting, and coin collecting.
Evan was predeceased by his parents; a sister Mar-Gwen Martin; and his wife. He is survived by his son, James Evan Morgan; and his grandson, Evan John Morgan, both of Chicago.
The family is deeply appreciative of the kindness and support provided by the staff members of Westminster Canterbury as Evan progressed through various stages of care.
