Evangelist Kathryn Dorthea Barbier

September 8, 1960 — October 14, 2021

In the early morning hours of October 14, 2021, God dispatched his angels to usher Evangelist Kathryn Dorthea Barbier through the gates of Heaven. Born on September 8, 1960 in Lynchburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Mary Younger Strange.  In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond L. Strange.

She was a faithful member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Monroe, VA, where she served in several capacities including Associate Minister, Youth Minister, Recording Secretary, Combined Choir President, and mentor to young women of the church.

Professionally she served as a nurse with the Johnson Health Center in Madison Heights, VA where she was much-loved and will be sorely missed by staff and patients alike.

She was a role model for all who knew her. Even with diagnosed with cancer she never lost her faith and praised the Lord continuously.  Her journey was a testament to the power of prayer.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and dedicated husband, Deacon Emilio Barbier. Three sons, Kinte, Adrian and Justin, and one stepdaughter, Yolanda Gibson (James). Granddaughters Kayla and Keyanna Robinson, Joelle and Gabrielle Gibson and one grandson Jeremias Jones. She also leaves sisters Jean Wansley, Sara Strange, Carolyn Strange, Teresa Dubois and Sheryl Strange; and brothers, John Strange of Salisbury, Maryland, Robert Dawson of Phoenix, Arizona, and David Strange (Sharon) of Lynchburg, VA.

Also mourning her passing are her aunts Rev. Vivian Curtis of Laurel, Md., and Eliza Wright of Stuarts Draft, VA. Her devoted father and mother-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Marcel Victor and sister-in-law, Yolene Belizaire and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Homegoing Services will be held outdoors on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Monroe, VA. She will lie in repose one hour before the service.
