Evelyn Crews Tune King, 95 years old, died January 18, 2014 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Evie and Herb Cox in Lottsburg, VA.
Evelyn and her husband, \"King,\" made their home in Emporia, VA where she was an active member of Main Street Methodist Church. After moving to Lottsburg, VA, she joined St. Stephen\"™s Episcopal Church in Heathsville, VA. Evelyn loved her friends, dogs, sports, sewing, reading, and most of all her family. She was a great story teller, remembering details that made history come alive.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn (Evie) King Cox, and husband, Herbert Bartle Cox; sons, William (Pete) Esta King and wife, Judy Mills King of Summerfield, NC, Charles (Boots) Booker King and wife, Donna Gebhardt King of Richmond, VA. Other survivors are her grandsons, Richard Mark Cox and wife, Susan Dillon Cox, Herbert David Cox and wife, Alison Nyhof Cox, William Esta King, Jr. and wife, Wendy Stephens King; her granddaughters Kathryn Diane Alexander and Lauren Elizabeth King; 7 great granddaughters, 3 great grandsons; a number of nieces and nephews; and beloved sisters-in-law, Dot M. King and Philly K. Landrum.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Esta Nathaniel King, Jr. Evelyn was born on a farm, which she loved, in Vernon Hill, Virginia, on September 26, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Minnie Boyd Tune and William Anthony Tune. She was preceded in death by four brothers, John Rudolph Tune, William Boyd Tune, Younger McDowell Tune and Julian Scott Tune; one sister, Lena Victoria Tune Clements.
The family is grateful for her life so filled with love and all who enriched it. Special thanks to members of Riverside Tappahannock Hospice who gave her and her family such loving care and comfort.
A memorial service to celebrate Evelyn\"™s life will be held at St. Stephen\"™s Episcopal Church in Heathsville, VA on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM with private burial at Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Vernon Hill, VA.
