Evelyn Furlong Watkins

Evelyn \"Nanny\" Furlong Watkins, 92, of Rustburg, VA, died Thursday, July 28, 2011.  She was the loving wife of Otis \"Doc\" Lee Watkins, Jr. for 67 years.

Mrs. Watkins was born Sunday, June 15, 1919 in Waycross, GA, daughter of the late Joe Alsea Furlong and Evelyn Liles Furlong.

Evelyn was a retired secretary for the Lynchburg Training School and Hospital and a member of Rustburg Baptist Church.

In addition to her spouse, she is survived by a son, Edward Lee Watkins and wife, Cathy of Roseland, a daughter, Linda Jo Watkins Shirey and husband, Herbert of Spout Spring; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ben A. Furlong, Joe L. Furlong and W. Edward Furlong.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, July 31st, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.  A celebration of Evelyn's life will be conducted in Rustburg Baptist Church on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 11:00 am with Rev. Roger Roller and Rev. Rick Cole officiating.  Interment will follow in Cumbie Memorial Cemetery.
