Evelyn Mae Burnette

Evelyn Mae Burnette, 95, daughter of the late James Edward, Sr. and Clementine Andrews Burnette died at home November 18, 2013. She is survived by three sisters, Geraldine Burnette, Kathleen Burnette and Helen Burnette Harvey and one sister-in-law, Jeane Grant Burnette.

She was predeceased by one sister, Lillian Burnette Tweedy and five brothers, William Ernest, Charles Russell, James Edward, Jr., Dewey Page and Warren Carlyle Burnette.

Evelyn was a member of Rustburg Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Rustburg High School. She attended Phillips Secretarial College and worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C. during World War II. After the war, she returned home to care for her mother and father and to become the matriarch of the extended Burnette family.

Evelyn devoted her life to the care of others. From one so small in stature, with a heart overflowing with love, so much was given. Her mentoring, nurturing, and unsurpassed culinary skills enable her legacy to live on in the lives of her five nieces and ten nephews and their families: Page Eney, Gayle Rhodes, Dana Goetz, Susan (James) Jennings, Rebecca (Richard) DuFour, Charles (Bonnie) Burnette, James, III (Melinda) Burnette, Steven (Connie) Burnette, Scott (Debye) Burnette, Russell Burnette, Douglas (Deborah) Harvey, Timothy (Rick) Harvey, David (Phyllis) Harvey, Paul (Kendra) Harvey, and Thomas (Rebecca) Tweedy.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Susan Jennings for her administrative supervision, to Evelyn\"™s caretakers Cil Tweedy, Shirley Fitzgerald, Sandra Galloway, and Seven Hills Hospice for their excellent service and loving care, and to Eric, Brian, and Keith Harvey for their constant visits and expressions of love.

A celebration of Evelyn\"™s life will be held at Rustburg Presbyterian Church on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those wishing to make memorial contributions consider Rustburg Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 77, Rustburg, VA 24588.
