Evelyn Mildred Justice, a long-time resident of Madison Heights, VA, passed into her Savior's presence at Bentley Commons of Lynchburg on July 30, 2012. She was born on December 11, 1924, the youngest of four children, to Harley and Gertrude Buchtel in Barberton, Ohio. In 1946 she married Leslie Ray Justice, who thought her the most beautiful girl in Akron.
Les and Evelyn made homes in Ohio, the Carolinas, and Maine before settling in Madison Heights in 1962. Les preceded her to Paradise in November, 2008. She moved to Lynchburg in September 2010 and then to assisted living at Runk and Pratt and Bentley Commons in 2011.
Evelyn worked for many years as a secretary at the Central Virginia Training Center, but her primary vocation was always to be a devoted wife and mother. She loved to decorate, sew, and garden, and to cook, especially for family gatherings (one son-in-law, Randy Lilly, called her the \"MacGyver of the Kitchen\"). Evelyn had a gentle but unconquerable spirit. While the last years of her life were attended by severe pain, she never lapsed into persistent depression. She could be crying with pain one minute and cracking up her caregivers with a joke the next.
Survivors include her son, Jack Justice & wife Becky; two daughters, Peggy Hunt & husband Bob, and Nancy Lilly; her niece Trudy Bratten; six grandsons, John Justice & wife Niki, Chris Stinson & wife Dawn, Matt Stinson & wife Gina, Michael Justice & wife Candy, Andrew Lilly, Philip Justice & wife Jess; and ten great-grandchildren, Amanda, Emily, Ryan, Gabrielle, Ethan, Terra, LeAnn, Jayden, Ilana, and the tenth in the womb but not yet named.
The family would like to thank Runk and Pratt, Bentley Commons, and Seven Hills Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Evelyn. They especially thank her devoted caregivers: Goldie; Melissa, Carol, Heaven, Granton, Amanda, Stella, Janet, Tiffany, Camika, Wanda, Lisa, Ida, and Debbie; Wanda and Brenda; Linda, Rachel, and Dianne; Peggy, Nancy, Andrew, Jack and Becky; and, last but not least, her constant companion \"" Minnie Mae.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM, with visitation starting at 10:00, at the Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory in Lynchburg with Pastor Mike Kelley officiating. Evelyn\"™s body will be laid to rest next to Leslie\"™s at Virginia Memorial Park awaiting the Resurrection and the return of God\"™s Son, to whom with the Father and Spirit belong all glory for this simple, beautiful life.
