Evelyn Marie Sheffey Tomlin “ET”, cherished mother and beloved Nan, peacefully departed to be with her Lord and Savior on May 1st,2024, at the age of 84.
Her enduring legacy includes four children, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Clayton Tomlin; son, Craig Tomlin; and cherished grandson, Samuel Rogers. She is survived by her son, Neil Tomlin of Huddleston; daughter, Tammy Rogers (Ronnie) of Lynchburg; and daughter, Terry Lanham (Reid) of Lynchburg. Additionally, she is survived by her two brothers, John Lee Sheffey and Donnie Sheffey. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret, Mary, Sandra, and Maxine.
Born in Caretta, WV, to John and Irene Sheffey. Evelyn was a proud graduate of Welch High School. For 43 years, she devoted herself to Liberty University, where she held various roles, including Manager of Student Accounts. Her dedication to serving students helped countless individuals achieve their educational aspirations.
A faithful member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and a dear friend of Dr. Jerry Falwell, Evelyn’s devotion to her faith was unwavering. She accepted Christ at the start of her career at Ericsson and spent 59 years sharing her love for Jesus with others.
Evelyn’s greatest joy was found in her family. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding solace and happiness in their presence. Her grandbabies, Alan, Clay, Jacob (Amy), Kayla, Kelly Jo (Justin), William (Cassidy), Christopher, and Samuel, along with her great-grandbabies, Scarlett, Gabriel, Emmanuel, Noah, Oaklee, Elijah, and Dani Jo, were the lights of her life.
Her kindness, dedication, and love will be forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Memorial contributions could be made to Liberty University, Liberty Christian Academy or Thomas Road Baptist Church in her name
A family visitation will take place at Tharp Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 6:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. A Celebration of life will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Thomas Road Baptist Church (Pate Chapel) followed by interment at Fort Hill Cemetery.Tuesday, May 7, 2024
