Evelyn Webb Hodges, formerly of Howard Drive, Lynchburg, died April 14 at Heritage Green Assisted Living Community.
Evelyn was born August 27, 1929 in Lynchburg, Virginia, the daughter of Evelyn Pinkston Webb and Thomas Harper Webb. She was educated in Lynchburg schools, graduating in the Class of 1946 from E. C. Glass High School. She was in the clerical world from 1946 until retiring in 1992 from Babcock and Wilcox Co. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for over sixty years. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Rivermont Emergency Food Pantry and Red Cross Blood Center. She loved and played tennis until late in life and loved dearly her pets, Tiger, George, Doc, Katie, and Miss Wu.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Billy James Hodges, her parents, her brother Thomas Pinkston Webb, sister Mattie Lorraine Webb, sisters-in-law, Renna Smith Webb and Katherine Hodges McFaden, and one niece, Pamela McFaden. She is survived by her nephew Thomas P. Webb, Jr., her niece Linda Webb Taliaferro and her husband Bill, great nieces Laurie Webb, Elizabeth Taliaferro-Jones (Bruce) and Lynn Taliaferro-Parker (Mark), great nephews Chris Webb (Maggie), Lloyd Taliaferro (Laura) and TommyTaliaferro (Megan), her niece Connie McFaden and nephew David McFaden (Deborah Clayton), 7 great-great nephews and nieces and her many friends at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 19, at 3 P.M. with the Reverend Dennis S. Roberts conducting the service. Inurnment will follow at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church columbarium immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.
