Everette Lee Mason Sr., 81, of Forest, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 16, 2024, from severe injuries he sustained in an automobile accident.
Everette was born September 12, 1942, in Lynchburg, Virginia, son of the late Glendon Everette Mason and the late Rosa Lee Ragland Mason. Everette loved his country and proudly served in the United States Navy. He had an incredible mechanical aptitude that he employed for years at Adams Motor Company, A.O. Smith (Magnatek) and the Central Virginia Training Center. He generously shared his expertise by helping family and friends with car problems and other household projects. His gentle spirit and loving manner in dealing with people gained him many friends through the years. Everyone was welcome in his home.
Everette’s love of family and friends was exceeded only by his strong faith. After Everette came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, he became an avid student of the Bible, graduating from Liberty Home Bible Institute. His love for and knowledge of the Scriptures was admired by all who knew him. He was on his way to a Bible study when the accident occurred.
Everette is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Shirley Lynn Anderson Mason; his daughter, Catherine Mason Beeson (Phil) and son, Everette Lee Mason Jr. (Handan); grandchildren, Shante Figgatt (Brian), Rebecca Etzel (Zach), Jana Burnette (Tyler), Brett Beeson, Sabrina Mason, Patrick Mason, Alexander Beeson and Wendy Adams; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Valarie Mason Jennings.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Neal Mason and granddaughter Jordan Bailey Gilmore.
Everette was a member of Heritage Baptist Church for many years where his Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held at Tharp Funeral Home on Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to Heritage Baptist Church.
