Evlyn (Joni) Johnson Calvert

Evlyn (Joni) Johnson Calvert of Lynchburg died October 19, 2010.  She was the wife of the late Bernard Yancey Calvert, Jr.

Joni was born October 12, 1921, in Tishomingo, OK, the youngest of four children of the late Rose Herrin Johnson and Edgar Alexander Johnson.  She was educated in the Tishomingo public schools and Oklahoma State University.

She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and was a volunteer for Our Daily Bread and Virginia Baptist Hospital.  She was also a member of the Women\"™s Club of Lynchburg.

Joni is survived by three daughters, Michele C. Myers (Eric) of Wilton, CT, Mary C. Patterson (Jack) of Westwood, MA, and Martha C. Tuttle (Paul) of Manlius, NY; one son, Bernard Y. Calvert, III (Suzanne) of Lynchburg.  She is also survived by ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home.  At other times the family will receive friends at the home of her son.  A funeral mass will be conducted by Celebrant Robert J. McEleney in the Commons area at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 21, 2010, followed by a reception in the church Commons.   Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Holy Cross Catholic Church Building Fund, 710 Clay Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504.
