Evon Gentry Pettyjohn, 88, of Lynchburg passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the loving wife of Howard W. Pettyjohn.
Born January 20, 1922 in Elkin, NC, she was the daughter of the late Thurmond and Ennis Gentry. She was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church where she was active with the Dorcas Sunday school class. Evon was also a member of the Lynchburg Women\"™s Club and the Lynchburg Noblettes. She was retired from Pettyjohn Brothers Shoe Manufacturing.
In addition to her husband, Evon is survived by her sons, Stephen Pettyjohn and wife, Betty of Lynchburg, and David Pettyjohn and wife, Shelia of Concord, NC; her grandchildren, Todd Pettyjohn and wife, Annette of Lynchburg, and Whitney Rogers and husband, Stacy of Richmond; her great-grandchildren, Daniel and Hannah Pettyjohn of Lynchburg, and Zachary Rogers of Richmond.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Arvil Gentry.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m., tonight at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at West Lynchburg Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Putt and Rev. James Newman officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
