Fannie Mae Brooks, 84, of Lynchburg, VA, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014. She was the wife of the late John William Brooks.
Born Thursday, March 21, 1929 in Nelson County, Mae was a daughter of the late Henry Spencer and the late Annie Smith Spencer.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Mae was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mae is survived by her children: Elsie Dolan Goodman and her husband, Harold, of Piney River, Shelby Tyree, of Gladstone, Tina Spencer, of Madison Heights, Louann McClure and her husband, Leon, of Lynchburg, David L. Brooks and his wife, Lynette, of Cifax, Peggy Sue Worsham and her husband, Johnie, of Lynchburg, and John W. (Duke) Brooks and his wife, Donna, of Lynchburg; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mae was devoted to her family. Her life was her family. She loved them unconditionally and they felt her love. A positive, strong willed person, who never complained, she was a mother to many. Mae also possessed a very artistic personality. One of the many ways she expressed this was through the decorating of her home and her flower gardens, which she would work on hours on end. Mae loved cats, especially Scooter. She will be missed by many.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 in Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Mack Almond officiating.
