Finn Berg

Finn Berg, 86, of Lynchburg, VA, died Friday, March 09, 2012. He was the husband of the late Bjorg Pauline Petersen Berg for 44 years.

Born Wednesday, February 10, 1926 in Oslo, Norway, Finn was a son of the late Knut Berg and Hjordis Berg.

Finn is survived by his daughters: Helene Ingrid Sanders and her husband, Nick of Forest, and Lisa Anderson and her husband, David, of Long Island, NY; three sons: Jeffrey Berg and his wife, Lisa, Stanley Berg, and Rodney Berg, all of Long Island, NY; eight grandchildren: Karin Nicole Smith and her husband, Brian, of Forest, David Kibler, Jason Sanders, Kristin Anderson, Jonathan Anderson, Casey Berg, Shannon Berg and Ian Berg all of Long Island, NY; three great grandchildren: Kevin Smith, Christopher Smith, and Melanie Smith all of Forest; two sisters: Eva and Sonja and a brother, Torleif.

In addition to his wife and his parents, Finn was preceded in death by a brother, Rolf.

Finn was a very friendly, kind, outgoing, and hard working person, who lived a hard life. As a 13 year old he left his home in Norway and fled to Sweden to avoid the Nazi during WWII. In 1951 he came to the US. Unable to speak English, he eventually married and started a family in New York. At one time he was a partner in a home building business, before taking a job as a barge captain for Mobile Oil. In his spare time Finn loved to fish, and work with his hands, especially building things with wood. He attended Thomas Road Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. Dr. Tom Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
