Florence Pittman Smith

Flo passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 7th and went home to be with her Lord.
She is survived by her husband Henry Hobson Smith of 62 years in marriage and her sister Katherine Eure of Wilmington, NC. She was born March 12, 1933 in Greenwood, VA. Flo was the daughter of the late Avis Jackson Pittman and the late Julia Dale Pittman.
Flo was a proud graduate of Berea College class of 1953. Also she enjoyed her career as a business woman in the city of Lynchburg for many years specializing in sales and bookkeeping. Additionally she taught those same skills to many woman in the city at night school. In particular she worked at Burris Company. She was an avid gardener and pet lover. She and Hank loved many long walks together and enjoyed conversations with their neighbors along the way.
Many thanks to the neighbors that she considered extended family who looked out after them. Would also like to thank the many caregivers from Centra Hospice and Home Instead who helped out in her last days.
A gathering to honor Flo’s life and to share stories will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, 220 Breezewood Dr., Lynchburg, VA 24502.
