Florence Smith Burkholder
Florence Smith Burkholder, 92 1/2, of Bedford, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 9, 2011.
Born June 7, 1919, the daughter of the late Elisha James Johnson and Virginia Powers Johnson. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 49 ½ years and the father of her children, Robert D. (Snuffy) Smith and her second husband of 3 ½ yrs. Warren Burkholder: a son-in-law; Albert T. Minnick: Four brothers: one sister: a caregiver; Frances Vanderveer and beloved cat; Nosey.
Florence is survived by three daughters; Doris M. Stanley and her husband, Kenneth of Bedford, Carolyn S. Minnick of Blue Ridge and Judy S. Manley and her husband, John of Bedford. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two great-great grandsons; nieces and nephews and numerous friends and special people that called her Granny Smith. A special thanks you to Curtis, Amanda, Penny and Margarete O. She was a charter member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church.
A Graveside service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, December 12, 2011, at Oakwood Cemetery with Pastor Greg Rogers and Rev. Kenneth Lafon officiating. Family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.
