Frances B. Foster, 87, originally of Lynchburg, passed away September 29, 2016, in her home in Midlothian, Va.
Frances proudly owned and operated a beauty salon out of her home for over 40 years. She and her husband enjoyed making crafts and attending craft fares. Frances loved to sew, making clothes, costumes and anything we could convince her to make especially for her great grandchildren. She attended Memorial Christian Church and enjoyed breakfast with her friends regularly at McDonalds while living in Lynchburg. She was full of laughter and loved to kid with her family. She was very competitive in life and never missed an opportunity to play a board game or even baseball in the yard. You never left her presence that she didn’t make sure to tell you, “Don’t you take no wooden nickels!”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin L. Foster; infant daughter, Jeanette Lynn Foster; parents, Ernest and Janie Blankenship; and sister, Dorothy Jenkins.
Frances is survived by her sister, Nellie Wright; daughter, Betty Mitchell (Barry); granddaughters, Shannon Mitchell and Erin McGarity (Mark); and 3 great-grandchildren: Luci Chiavaroli, Sadie and Foster McGarity; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Frances’ life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, on Monday, October 3, 2016, at 1:00 PM with Reverends Virgil and Sue Knipp officiating. Burial to follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Association, 1275 K Street NW, Suite 250, Washington, DC 20005.
