Frances Anne Gallaher Lewis, of Lynchburg, passed away on April 13, 2023. She was born in Forest, Virginia to the late Hubert Clifton Gallaher and Louise Thomas Gallaher. Frances was a graduate of Boonsboro High School and attended Lynchburg College where she continued her education throughout her banking career. Before entering the banking industry Frances worked for the Pentagon for several years in communications. Upon leaving there, she moved back to Forest where she met the love of her life, Sherman Odell Lewis. They married in 1948 and lovingly shared 57 years together until his passing in 2005. She served Central Fidelity Bank faithfully as their Vice President and Manager of Operations for the western region for many years. Outside of her professional career, Frances was a member of numerous organizations including, the Blue Ridge chapter of the National Association of Bank Women, where she served as Secretary and Publicity Chairman, the Virginia chapter of the National Association of Business and Professional Women’s Club, where she served as Auditor and Chairman of the Committee on Civic Participation, she was also State Representative at the National Committee, she was a member of Multiple Management Group, the U.S. Postal Customer Council of Greater Lynchburg, and the Lynchburg Servamus Club, where she served as Vice President and Secretary.

Frances very much enjoyed going out to area restaurants where she met so many of her dear friends at Bulls, Charlie’s, and Westside Deli. You could always find Frances enjoying the live music and dancing every chance she had. Frances and her sister, Helen, made sure all of the family stayed close. They were always having get-togethers at Helen and Marvin’s home and celebrating every occasion together. Her love and dedication to her family was by far her greatest legacy.
