Francis K. Denham passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015. Frank died peacefully at home, surrounded by family after a short battle with lung cancer.

Born October 7, 1926 in Camden, New Jersey, he was the son of William Joseph and Mary Erb Denham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, William Denham of Pennsauken, NJ and John Denham of Camden, NJ, and son-in-law, Dexter Lopez of Piscataway, NJ.

A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden, NJ, he enlisted in the Navy in 1944, serving on several ships during his tour of duty in the Atlantic Theater, honorably discharged in1946. He then went on to earn a BS in Commerce and Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia. Upon graduation in 1951, he joined the Limitorque Division of Philadelphia Gear Corp, where he spent his entire career. A long time resident of Pennsauken NJ, Frank spent 20 years in the King of Prussia, PA office of Philadelphia Gear Corporation, and then had the opportunity to move to Lynchburg as Executive Vice President of Limitorque Corporation, a subsidiary of Philadelphia Gear in 1977. In Virginia, he assisted in the transfer of the administrative office to join the manufacturing facility in Lynchburg. He retired as Executive Vice President of Limitorque in 1987 and immediately began his volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Interfaith Rebuilds (formerly, Rebuilding Together Lynchburg) and the Tuesday Morning Group at Holy Cross Church.

Frank was an avid golfer and a member of Oakwood Country Club, where he served on their Board of Directors. His passion was woodworking and was a member of the Hill City Woodworkers. Family members are blessed to have original, heirloom pieces of furniture hand crafted by Frank.

He is survived by his college sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Margaret Denham of Lynchburg, Virginia; six daughters, Patricia Howanitz (Paul) of Centerville, IN, Christine Denham (Robert Stein) of New York, NY, Margaret Slattery of Audubon, NJ, Mary Pierson (Paul) of Sewell, NJ, Susan Lopez of Piscataway, NJ, and Carol Bertrand of Lynchburg, VA; three sons, Francis Denham (Lola Foster), Paul Denham (MaryByrd) of Lynchburg, VA, and Michael Denham of Greensboro, NC; twenty-six grandchildren; his sister, Mary Gramigna of Haddonfield, NJ; and sisters-in-law Franny McCool of Thorofare, NJ, and Ophelia Schweiger of Marlton, NJ.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday October 16, 2015, at Holy Cross Church. There is a mass with reception to follow. Visitation from friends will be at Tharp Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m Thursday, October 15, 2015.

The family suggests that memorials be sent to Interfaith Rebuilding (formerly Rebuilding Together, Lynchburg) or Habitat for Humanity, Lynchburg.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
