Frank Wayne Wood, Sr.

Frank Wayne Wood, Sr., S.F.C. Ret. Army, of Thaxton, Virginia, passed away peacefully, at his residence, on November 13, 2024. He was born on May 13, 1941, in Roanoke, Virginia, to the late Frank Staunton Wood and Lena Estelle Weaver Wood.

Frank dedicated his life to his family and career. He was a devoted father, uncle, and grandfather, known for his commitment to his work in fire protection systems, where he served as superintendent. He will be missed by all who knew him. 

He is survived by his children, Frank Wayne Wood, Jr. and Dawn Beverly Raider (Trey); stepchildren, Kevin Gosnell and Kathy Gosnell; grandchildren, Angela Gosnell (Matthew), Kyle Franklin (Amanda), and Dewey Franklin; four great-grandchildren; a special niece, Robin Shifflett; and many other family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Frank is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte Wood; his siblings, Faye, Jane, Lois, and Jerry; and his grandson, Matthew Brown.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Tharp Funeral Home in Bedford. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Washington Memorial Park, Sandston, Virginia.
