Fred Dennis Thornhill, Sr.

Fred Dennis Thornhill, Sr. departed this life on March 30, 2017. He was born October 15, 1936 in Fincastle, Va. to the late Fred Johnson Thornhill and Dollie Ann Gusler Thornhill.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, son, and granddaughter. He was a longtime employee at Appalachian Power Company in Lynchburg and Scottsville, Va.
Fred was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and husband. He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Fred Dennis Thornhill, Jr.; two daughters, Gail Marie Markowski and her husband, Michael, of Monroe, Va. and Wanda Lynn Akers and her husband, Tony, of Rustburg, Va.; his wife and best friend, Mary Thornhill of Monroe, Va.; twelve grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and two aunts, Marybell Johnson of Fincastle, Va. and Violet Tyree of Roanoke, Va.
Fred loved to hunt, fish, camp, ride four-wheelers, and spend time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights. A celebration of Fred’s life will immediately follow at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights.
