Fred P. Vereen

October 5, 1935 — September 22, 2017

Fred Perley (Mr. P) Vereen was called home on Friday September 22nd, 2017. Jack was born on October 5th, 1935 in Henderson NC. He was the son of the late Rev. David Vereen and Ideella Stanley-Vereen.

He leaves behind his loving devoted wife of 61 years, Earline Vereen; six wonderful daughters,  Pearlina Vereen, Delia Vereen, Valerie Vereen, Tammy Vereen, Tracy McCray (Darnell), and Tia Koonce-Vereen; nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren, also a host of nieces and nephews; one sister-n-law Lula Vereen (Bronx, NY), and one brother-n-law, Scottie Manley (Henderson, NC), and best friend Bula Perry (Henderson, NC).

Fred attended school in Henderson NC. Shortly after he worked at Carolina Bagging Company, later he moved with his wife and two oldest daughters to the Bronx NY to further his journey in life. Fred worked at Pearl Lanolin Carpet Company until he retired.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church for over 25 years.

He was an extraordinary checker player and could beat anyone. He was the president of the local senior club in Bronx NY.

Mr. P, Uncle Perley, Pop, Cool Chester Cheater, Papa, and Old Jack, was the coolest dude you would have ever meet.

A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held on Monday, September 25,2017in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, with Pastor Jay Logan officiating.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
