French Poole, Jr.

French Poole, Jr., age 76, of Lynchburg, Virginia ascended to his heavenly home on February 27, 2024. He was the son of the late French Poole, Sr. and Aleane Jones Poole, and the husband of Dorothy Johnson Poole for 19 years.

Mr. Poole was born on June 27, 1947, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was a devoted employee of Rock Tenn for over 25 years and Banker Steel for over 10 years. As an avid sports fan and athlete, he played both football and baseball and later became the football coach of Dunbar High School. Mr. Poole bravely served his country in the U.S. Army, where he served as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He was awarded a Purple Heart, Gold Metal, and Bronze Star.  He was a faithful member of New Life Gospel Assembly Church. He was also a faithful member of the ‘American Legion Hall Post 16 of Lynchburg, VA, he attended meetings every Thursday, in which he thoroughly enjoyed it.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Poole is survived by his children, Natasha Poole, French Poole III, Greta Coleman, Francis Wilson ( Devrick Wilson); two sisters-in-law, Bertie Slayton of Lynchburg, Va. And Pamela Johnson of Madison Heights, VA.; brother-in-law, Phillip Johnson of Chatham, Va; grandchildren, Jawan Noell (Ieashea Noell), Dominique Noell, Rae’quan Rucker, Cedric Davis, De’marius “Mari” Wilson and Quincy Poole; great-grandchildren, Ava and Niyeli Noell, and Naim Bryant; special great-nieces, Lilly and Willow Johnson; and many loving friends in the community.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, from 6-8 P.M. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, VA. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 1 P.M. at New Life Gospel Assembly in Lynchburg, VA with Elder Darby officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 16.
