Alfred W. Coles
Alfred W. Coles, 68, of Lynchburg passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023.
He was the loving husband of Peggy A. Coles for over 29 years.
Alfred was born October 12, 1954 in Amherst County, VA, a son of the late Paulina L. Braxton and Jessie D. Coles. Alfred “Shorty” Coles worked for Lynchburg Public School and later retired from Flowers Bakery. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Sonny. Alfred was a Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching wrestling and relaxing outdoors.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Tarzanna Word; his stepdaughters, Angel Wade, Tonya Wade, Carita Adams, and Monica Banks; his sister, Erma Parrish; aunt Georgia Mae Douglas; mother-in-law, Mattie Bennett, sister-in-law, Tina Austin; Brother-in-law; Henry Thomas , his grandchildren, Monica Word , DeAndre Word, Shantel Wade, Demetri Wade, Kadijah Johnson , Jelanie Ligon, Travis Johnson, and Lennox Parker ; seven great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; James P. Coles, Herman L. Coles, James R. Braxton, and Joes Joe Braxton; two sisters, Alice D. Battle, and Carolyn Jean Thomas. .
A celebration of Alfred’s life will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with Reverend William Johnson, Sr. officiating.
