Alton Carter Gregory, Jr.
Alton Carter Gregory Jr., 74, of Lynchburg, VA went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 27, 2023. He was the devoted husband of 31 years to Dianne Fore Gregory.
Born in Lynchburg, Virginia, he was the son of the late Alton Carter Gregory Sr. and the late Ruby Gregory.
In addition to his wife, Dianne, Alton is survived by his daughter, Heather Gregory Younger and her husband Lee Younger of Lynchburg, VA; daughter Ivy Crystal McCarron and her husband Michael McCarron of Forest, VA; and grandchildren Noah Younger, Jahvaunie, Ari, Sadie McCarron and Sophia McCarron. He is also survived by his four sisters, Wilmer-Jean Wright and the late Alfred Wright of Lynchburg,VA; Donna Neighbors and her husband Jimmy Neighbors of Charlestown, WV; Gloria Mann and husband Robert Mann of Fredericksburg, VA; and Charlotte Fariss and her husband Smith Fariss of Bedford, VA; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Alton served his country as the Head Mess Sergeant in the Army National Guard. During his time with the National Guard he found his passion for cooking. He was a hard-working and dedicated store manager for the Kroger Company for 38 years throughout the Lynchburg area. After his retirement from Kroger he spent his time helping others and cooking for others every chance he got.
To know him was to be blessed. Alton was filled with wisdom, patience, forgiveness and love. He was a devoted Christian with a strong, unwavering faith. Alton was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many! If he wasn’t helping or cooking, he enjoyed spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren, fishing, camping or sitting in his favorite chair watching Fox News.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4:00pm, Monday, July 31, 2023, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with the Pastor Carlton Duck officiating.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Gethsemane Baptist Church of Lynchburg, Virginia.

I GREW UP IN FAIRIVEW HEGHTS NEAR THE GREGORY'S. SO SAD TO HEAR OF ALTON;S PASSING. HE IS IN A BETTER PLACE NOW WHERE THERE IS NO PAIN OR SORROW !

Grew up near Alton and he and my brothers spent lots of time playing baseball ad swinging on my Nannys "porch and eating. Nanny was always feeding them. Alton was always so kind to me being the little sister when my brother's picked on me. Always looked up to him. No surprise he grew into such a loving and caring man. Dianne my heart goes out to you. Prayers for you and all the family.
